Selling Your Photography

Marketing and selling your photography comes after creation of a picture. Anyone can take a picture. It is how you create the picture that makes you different. Your individual style is what will sell your photography.

As you continue to take pictures you will develop your own style and technique. This is what will be your mark, your uniqueness. This is what will SELL your photography. People will want your photos because you took them. They appreciate and feel your emotion. Sure some subjects are more popular than others, however, if you focus on the popularity of the subject you can diminish your own uniqueness. It can take away from “your style” and not really reflect who you are. Thus, you become the same as anyone else who can take a good picture.

Take pictures of what interests you. Use your emotion to take your pictures. Try to capture how the subject made you feel. Accentuate what you like best about the picture. As you develop as a nature photographer your pictures will improve. You style and uniqueness will evolve. Not everyone will appreciate or understand some of your choices. Don’t let this bother you. Everyone has critics, some good, some not. The ones who negatively criticize your photos, you can consider as constructive criticism, use it positively. Look at that photo again, is there something you could have done to make it better. Does it reflect what you really wanted it to? If it does, just know that not everyone is going to see things in the same way as you do and move on.

Remember, as a nature photographer, you are capturing your emotions and sharing how that photo made you feel. There will be plenty of people that WILL appreciate your photography. Keep your style and uniqueness and you will succeed!

Well written article that is right on point. Only the national debt is growing faster than digital images, so

finding a way to get your work noticed is big; real big.

Hi there sgbrown, great hub. The second paragraph has some great words to live by (as a photographer). I never thought of photography that way, as a personal style. I'm going to look at my photos and try to find that style. There's so much to learn here on Hubpages, so many great Hubbers. I'm following you now and will be reading your past Hubs, if you see some comments pop up, they'll probably be mine.
